Family owned and operated, Double D Oyster is a shellfish aquaculture business, established in 2013. Primarily focused on off bottom oyster aquaculture, we are the Gulf Coast’s first and largest commercial oyster nursery. Having sold seed to every gulf coast state and up the eastern sea board, we have even expanded to selling to both Asia and the Carribean. We also are the authorized OysterGro Gulf Coast dealer and have been since 2014. Servicing farms with both gear and expertise over the last 5 years, our experiences have culminated in launching our own farms.
THE FARMS
Grande Batture Located on the bar, left by the century old remnants of the historical “Grande Batture Island” at the Southernmost point of Alabama’s Sandy Bay, our oysters enjoy the lush nutrient rich waters deposited by the Escatawpa river delta. These waters comingling with the highly oxygenated briny waters of western Grand Bay produce a sweet buttery plump oyster with just the right amount of brine.
Island Time Located on the “bay side” of Dauphin Island, these oysters are reared with some of Alabama’s finest beaches within sight. Grown in the highest salinity waters on Alabama’s coast and, with the ever-changing tidal flows the oysters have a unique crisp clean briny flavor that is still subtle enough not to overpower the faintest connoisseur.
